Our philosophy

The Valley Dance Project aims at combining skill development with creative expression through dance. Equal attention is given to instruction in traditional modern technique and guided opportunities to more freely explore the joys of movement.

All classes strive to help students feel comfortable while encouraging them to challenge themselves both creatively and physically.

Age groups

Creative Dance for ages 2 1/2 to 7

Iris uses songs, stories, and movement games to broaden children's movement skills and their imaginations. Basic ballet and modern steps are introduced, along with ethnic and folk dances.

Children are inspired to stretch their creative potential with props and musical instruments.

Modern Dance for grades 3 to 12

No classes offered 2012 - 2013.
For this group, we introduces more formal modern dance technique through direct instruction as well as in the context of creative exercises that allow students to explore the various concepts of movement, such as space, rhythm, balance, and energy. Improvisation and composition activities become increasingly challenging as students' technical skills develop.

More advanced students in grades 7-12 may take Performance Workshop in which students learn more advanced choreography from teachers, as well as work on their own choreography in preparation for several local performances throughout the school year. We also offer students at this level additional classes in ballet and floor barre technique.

..."I have always been impressed by the work Mary and Iris do with their dancers and it amazes me that every year's recital is more remarkable than the last"
